If you want to talk about "social contagion" you should start with religion. 99% of religious people are liars. How can I tell? Because "religious experiences" are just schizophrenic experiences and schizophrenics are 1% of the population. They literally don't have the neurotype.

Schizophrenia is a reversion to the bicameral mind where you get stuck. You don't have to be stuck there to visit long enough to have a religious experience. The fraction of the population that had a bicameral episode could be a lot more than the fraction that gets stuck.
