Whenever it's important and salient it's always a gestalt effect that evolved based on the fact that projecting meaning onto that thing produces order that isn't there by default. Only thing nobody notices are real things.

Things exist but their boundaries and significance is defined by people. Additionally, perspectives are evolved and utility doesn't correspond to accuracy always, but to the consequences of certain perspectives.
