I think especially intelligent people can tap into a narcissist's or sociopath's skillset, if need be, without actually technically being either of those
I think the mechanisms that selected for intelligence also selected for sociopathy and narcissism. After all it's far easier to employ a mixture of cheating and genuine merit to succeed than it is to succeed on merit alone. Selective aggression.

Put another way, I think things probably only diagnostically become sociopathy or narcissism when a person is overindexed on the associated skills relative to more productive skills. So a lot of productive people are probably better at sociopathy or narcissism than the diagnosed.
