Human beings plus advanced widespread computer technology will inevitably result in torture on scales that have only ever been articulated in religious texts. But we can't give up technological advancement. So we have to give up human beings.

Why do you think this (premise about tech and torture)?

Every development in tech has brought new ways to hurt people and these are always used. The odds of being used go up proportionally to access to the technology. Just betting that synthetic consciousness or mind machine interface are possible really.
