Consistently failing to live up to our ideals is as American as apple pie baby
When I think of the ideals of America I have good associations but when I think of the character of America I have bad associations. How do I rectify this? Does it need to be rectified? Is there any way I could just take America and leave all the Americans?

This is at the heart of my worship of Columbia and my experience of her as a goddess. To me the mythical American ideals are worthy of engagement and worship - uniquely so, even. However obviously America the state doesn't live up to them. So I pursue a religious

relationship with those ideals, and try to live up to them and engage with them in my every day life.
