I just think some people must be born traumatized, or inherently fragile. Everyone assumes equal robustness to simplify utilitarian calculations but some people are just born to experience pain more acutely even in trivial conditions.

Oddly enough most people recognize this instantly as a calibration issue and respond by vastly increasing rather than decreasing pain for such people. Which sometimes works, making things worse
