Shout out to my insurrecto friend who was scandalized to learn I code on a banged up decade-old laptop. Look, she may not have a functional fan or all her registers, the plastic case may be cracked & eroding, and the screen may be warped, but she's fast enough for you, old man.
Overheating often means built up dust. It's how most of my laptops die as they age unless I take them all the way down and air blast them

In this case it's because the fan is broken and the plastic casing has also broken in a way that makes it impossible to replace the fan.
