A parrot might not understand English but it certainly imbues words with meaning, otherwise it wouldn't have cause or ability to speak at all. If something is an outcome of cognition it can't be meaningless.
You would have to prove that the parrots speech was automatic in some sense for me to believe that. As in, dissociated from the cognitive loop entirely

Hmm. That's fair. Communication is probably too strong a claim, and separate from the lesser question of whether the parrot has particular experiences associated with speaking.
