Beginning to think gender identity is going to be among the very last aspects of the brain to be untangled, because it appears to be associated with variable degrees of neuroplasticity, which are themselves often downstream of other neurological conditions. That and politics.
The only people who actually have a fixed gender are people who have abnormal brains, often autistic people, which is itself a clusterfuck because autism is itself gendered in a sense along another independent axis. The rest have gender tendencies but they aren't so fixed.
