Puberty blockers should be allowed literally at the onset of puberty. Estrogen or testosterone, 16 seems fine. Ideally of course we would use a combination of gene sequencing and brain scans matched against longitudinal data to weed out obvious future regret cases.
The only real crime of the current wave of trans trending is that we're not getting fine-grained data out of it. Hell, we're not really getting any data at all. Unacceptable. This should be a data driven question, but instead it's been framed as a question of liberty vs safety

yeah that data would be really great to have. we don't seem to have any solid idea about how many later on regret, or what conditions regret is most correlated with. we know there *are* regret cases, but are they statistically significant in some sense we can detect?

Yudkowsky talks about Einstein and how he said "If my theory is wrong, I will be embarrassed for God". He says that in order to conceive of the theory in the first place to sufficient fidelity to articulate it, Einstein must have already had substantial evidence.
