guy who thinks the age people should be able to start transitioning is 14 and that another guy who thinks that age should be 16 is an absolute unironic nazi

in all honesty we just haven't figured out what the ideal age for a person to follow through on transitioning should be, or what degree of input should be necessary from the parent/s if that age is below the legally defined age of majority

for example, as a general issue of bodily autonomy, in the US it is illegal to give a minor a tattoo or piercing without parental consent. is that reasonable? idk, it seems to be. should it generalize to transitioning? idk. but there is a definite relationship between the two

we're going to end up with some roughly utilitarian collective calculation of how much people who oppose transitioning as a choice for their children are willing to give a shit in opposition to people who think children should get to make that kind of decision at 13 or something

there's obviously a lot of gray, and if you think that you really know, you individually, that you have perfect and absolute clarity on the morality and rights and bodily autonomy and all of that... idk. I think you don't know. I don't think we know decisively yet.

if you think the age should be 14, and another thinks the age should be 13, and they called you a nazi, would that change your mind? is one year that big a difference? is a few years? seems like there's a happy medium, and we just don't know the full consequences yet to decide
