If anyone believed in their heart of hearts that we were about to genocide Mexicans they’re insane. However, I concede that some people were earnest in their concern and weren’t just being cynical opportunists.
All empires have killed an abnormally large number of people historically. You're comparing an outlier to other outliers.

"All empires have killed an abnormally large number" oh sorry i thought you were trying to make a point about the US 'being different'

Than other countries, yes. Unless you think all countries are empires. My point could probably be summarized as "empires are inherently dangerous, and like anything dangerous should be managed with discipline or else not at all"

States usually were killing people in very large amounts, and not doing so is an outlier behavior. If you have an idea of European countries after WW2 in your head, they mostly didn't kill people because they were just in the US sphere.

Not just states. Indo-European and Bantu expansions were pretty bloody too. Really the lack of killing recently is pretty abnormal.
