If you want to split hairs then yes, but we all know they were invoking the Holocaust when they said “concentration camp”.

Sure. I guess the unprincipled equivocators must have felt that, given that the holocaust was an escalation of concentration camps, and given that concentration camps are a necessary precondition to such an escalation, having concentration camps is not good.

If anyone believed in their heart of hearts that we were about to genocide Mexicans they’re insane. However, I concede that some people were earnest in their concern and weren’t just being cynical opportunists.

All aspects of gov are a precondition to concentration camps, and unlike actual concentration camps they can return at any time the semantics on this is so dumb

If I went to north korea and they put me in a camp for doing whatever thing, I would not be able to say "what the heck , I thought this was a concentration camp why can't I go back home"

Every south american country has immigration laws, europe has immigration laws, the idea every gov on planet earth is teetering on edge of slippery slope for having immigration laws is ridiculous

I don't know whether or not the United States government is at any particularly greater risk of mass murder than other governments, but your analysis via evasion isn't really helping to clarify anything.

I think hitler wasn't rounding up people risking death to immigrate to germany and you are being pedantic lol , it seems like you only want framing that is suggestive in one direction and that's not really my problem

I mean, if you think the point of the argument is to clarify whether Hitler's motives match US government motives, and not that the point of the argument is whether or not the possibility of mass murder of anyone is unacceptably high, I guess I can understand your "framing".

I think the point of the argument is calling them concentration camps is fucking ridiculous and having immigration laws in line with the whole entire planet is not a slippery slope

Not by itself. The government of the United States has killed an abnormally large number of people historically though. Maybe that is worth considering in conjunction with other facts.

Maybe it's worth considering that the united states having laws similar to every other country isnt really reflective of a single fucking thing, have u considered it in conjunction with that??

"the United States has killed an abnormally large number of people historically" is there some handy reference source that compares Roman Empire, Mongol Empire, Spanish Empire, British Empire, Soviets, Chinese Communists, Americans for 'total number of people killed'? curious

All empires have killed an abnormally large number of people historically. You're comparing an outlier to other outliers.

I don't consider it euphemism to call these detainment camps the original concentration camps were to "concentrate" the Boer population during the Boer Wars the difference between detaining border crossers and rounding people up in their homes is substantive
