I am pretty sure I am too dumb for functional programming, but I can understand Rust, so eh? Maybe Haskell specifically is just too weird/mathy for me and I'd do alright with another functional programming language like, say, Elixir.

i've had scala recommended to me! i only really tried it once and at the time the tools were awful. it seemed like you could write java in it or ML in it pretty easily afaik it's complex in similar ways to rust (as in, if it compiles you know what it does, otherwise, hmmmmmmmmm)

scala is arguably sort of easier than haskell and has some things spelled out a bit but it also really really sucks. some things have guides but people seem allergic to making thorough reference documentation and expect you to understand things based on their type signatures
