I am an irrational person in many respects, and there is a lot of momentum behind this irrationality. When you can't solve a problem through reason, you try unreason. When you can't solve a problem through unreason, you try more unreason. Rationality is more greatly bounded.

The possibility space of rational hypotheses may be infinite but the possibility space of thinkable rational hypotheses is finite, and small. Never is this more evident than as a child. I wonder how many other schizophrenics were once rational children with unsolvable problems.

You can survive all of nature's cruelties via reason but to survive the cruelties of man you need exactly the right kind of unreason, and you need it before you encounter the problem: there are mistakes that pay compounding interest in harm and without instinct you will make them
