In general this ends with the victimizer pre empting the logic by performing the act of annihilation themselves, always "in self defense". So whenever the shoe is on the other foot, justice demands immoderation.

If luck allows the process to short circuit, to end sooner, that is of course better. But oppressors always view modest demands as tantrums and substantive acts as existential threats, so escalation is natural. You can't apply the logic of nullifying tantrums to real wounds.
