      it was just reverse engineered referential mania (throw out a bunch of referents, insist they have a cohesive meaning, and let people just make shit up to insist the emperor is wearing clothes) with a light dash of synchs as "proof" of veracity/meaning

      did they? maybe it did what they expected all along - provide a convenient scapegoat plus there was the always very valuable data gathered from applying certain theories in the field

      The data won't be useable to purpose and at scale for another 20 years. It's easy to drive people crazy, harder to get them to do what you specifically want
