If social progress is impossible then society is the enemy of truth and must be destroyed.
At the heart of social issues are certain factual questions that can be affirmed or denied, both with individuals and collectively. Both science and society make judgements about collectives. They will always tend to flatten things and, with statistics, rob them of texture.

This destroys individual truth. Just as important, the affirmation or denial of certain truths serves to entrench or constrain the exercise of power, the acquisition of power through various social technologies (religion, etc), and so forth. Strong incentives against truth exist.

If incentives against truth are strong enough then it literally doesn't matter whether a thing is true or not to whether it is believed. This is immoral. A society of liars is existentially forfeit.
