The "I like you... but that guy scares me" meme/comic does a wonderful job emphasizing how people greedily build coalitions, grabbing *anyone* who will side with them against the enemy, without consideration as to what sort of influence these allies will have over the coalition.

The left is utterly *abysmal* on this, no surprise, but I think a lot of the horrors of 80s postmodernism can be understood as folks delightfully accepting allies in their struggles without really caring to look that deep into their motivations or perceptions of the struggle.

*You* may not believe "science is one of many equally valid ways of knowing including crystals" but when you use particular language *the most common default interpretation* of that language is going to determine the majority of your allies.

This is why I keep emphasizing that authors have an obligation to consider the most baseline (mis)interpretations or instrumentalizations likely of their texts. If a majority of people in the world are going to see your text as a tool to do X then it's a tool for X.

Hard disagree with spirit of this. First, if you make it too easy to poison the well your enemy will repeatedly and shamelessly poison the well without consequence. Second, the incentives of the powerful will always tend towards appropriating trends: See China irt Christianity.
