I can understand conservatism only as a reluctant concession to reality. The idea of enthusiastic conservativism seems like psychopathy to me.

Sure. To the extent politics is about mediation and hence almost always implies harm, that's true. But conservatives understand and champion the use of hard power more often, whereas liberals more often hurt by incompetence alone. I suppose I just view it as a question of intent
