Amazing how /r/portland manages to have on lock the exact fraction percentage of the population that claims progressive positions but then votes for Wheeler and salivates about anarchists being brutalized because liberals hate the homeless infinitely more than anything else.

They want to live in gated communities but without the gates, if that makes sense. So anything that disrupts their fantasy is absolutely hated.
But liberals believe in the permeability and mutability of human beings, that's a fundamental assumption of the liberal project. Make people conform to doing the good things. So therefore people who don't are either repudiating the system by choice (evil) or by nature (inferior).

Like some liberals talk about luck egalitarianism or whatever but it's fundamentally unserious posturing, watch what they actually do and you'll see they think their institutions are infallible.

Many certainly believe in absolutely everything you are writing. I think others, especially those that aren't very political, really just love the status quo and would like to put a new coat of paint on it to hide what they can't defend. We might be just saying the same thing.
