We kind of assume the first self aware machine would be akin to a child or an insect but honestly the mistake we tend to make about machines is projecting intelligence as we understand it onto them, and theirs onto us

I remember reading years ago that the idea of comprehending the brain like a hard drive has created a major roadblock for articulating how mind and memory and cognition work, and I imagine the problem must also work in reverse

I'd argue that we wouldnt even recognize self awareness in a machine because we barely recognize it in ourselves outside of abstract interactions, what would we even know to look for in a construction that is completely different to how we are actually assembled
