A communist professor of mine once suggested destroying the accumulated wealth of the rich every generation. This suggestion is stupid as hell. However, reading Finite and Infinite, games it strikes me that a society which remembers more titles than it grants is dysfunctional.

Yes, but I don't mean titles in strictly such a sense but also in the sense of Finite and Infinite Games, which would extend, for instance, to debt obligations.

There are forms of relation that dissolve to one extent or another with the forgiveness of debt, but not all forms of relation do so.
