That's true. If there are other intelligences nearby that might have been effected adversely by humans in some way, at least they have the peace of mind of knowing that will never happen now.
2020 is basically the ending of Consider Phlebas where everything explodes and everyone dies, and the audacity of considering this to be somehow ontologically necessary to a greater scheme of some sort that maximizes freedom is so profound that it approaches the sublime.
