It's not even literate traditionalism because literate traditionalism would say that there's nothing new under the sun and hence every setting is default in a certain sense; that people have definite types. This is conceding that certain conceits of existentialism are true.
also, in general a "tradition" evolves through changing parts of a certain doctrine (presumably more adaptable) and saying it's just been there all along, implicitly. most medieval innovation was put forward like that.
in the end you're either a gradualist or a revolutionary. nobody in their right mind wants or believes things to stay the same forever.
