That's an equivocation over the meaning of the word conscious, or at least there's no evidence to conflate the two, and even if they were the same it would only prove that nature is indifferent to consciousness as a phenomenon and doesn't care if you die every night. Is ought.

Replying to @woke8yearold @robert_mariani
Like in film, there's limited continuity from one frame to the next; that's what creates dynamism; but each frame occupies the same position in the aperture when it plays. There is mechanical identity between each frame in terms of how it is projected. There is a unity there.

If you're right, then my ideas would be harmless to implement. If I'm right, your ideas would not be harmless to implement.

It sounds like you're a Shaivist and he's a Buddhist (sort of) People have been having this same argument for about 2000 years now

Are you a panpsychist? That seems more relevant. I am not arguing for an essential self, just that consciousness is likely dependent on particular mechanics, structures or even substrates. And if it's not, then self consciousness in particular is, and perceived self is desireable

I'm saying that continuity of consciousness is dependent on all mediums being able to sustain continuity of consciousness internally and interrelatedly. On which case the sim would be a fork of you, and you in the same sense that a river that forks remains a unity of sorts

That's fair but uninteresting to me. I'm not concerned with whether a clone is you or not in that sense, I am concerned with whether or not any instance or version of me dies. This is what I find important to the question of whether a copy is you; whether copying prevents a death
