Continuity of consciousness is a meaningful concept that doesn't require any essentialism about the self, this train of thought is ridiculous. Nothing can be an illusion to nothing, therefore the mere concept of "consciousness being an illusion" is self contradictory nonsense
Like in film, there's limited continuity from one frame to the next; that's what creates dynamism; but each frame occupies the same position in the aperture when it plays. There is mechanical identity between each frame in terms of how it is projected. There is a unity there.
