Not irrational. It's the rationality of losers. It's how you play when you can't play fair. There are elements of this among the left also, but the story of the right has been how their language and stated values have ceased to serve them over time.
Suck at capitalism? Blame globalism and immigration. Friend or family suck at capitalism? Blame neoliberalism. People use their liberties and prosperity for different sins than you? Blame cultural marxism. Etc.
