Every time someone is like "I'm an X first and an anarchist second" I laugh about what a weird utility function that must be. Like your priorities are: 1) something arbitrary and then 2) "no one should dominate or control another person and we should maximize freedom for all"

To kind of invert it, my logician friend always thought he was performing some sort of reductio on me when asking why I care about my gender or how others perceive my gender, and I always basically just accepted whatever the implications were of the "ridiculous" utility function.

I actually really respect “vegetarian/vegan except for...” types. They’re like the people who say “I would be veg, but I can’t give up...” but actually took that to it’s conclusion. If everyone did that, we’d harm a lot fewer animals.

Yeah, if "vegan except cheese" is evaluated as a value system, then it's clearly incoherent and can defend anything. But if it's understood as core value veganism struggling with weak flesh, it's pretty clearly utilitarian. (And it's typically utilitarians arguing for such.)
