my nutjob theory to explain how Jesus survived the crucifixion and was used to start the Christian religion, a threadhttps://twitter.com/ne0agent1c/status/1293066934066589696 …

while the Egyptians had magical rituals that they believed served to transmit messages from divine sources, the Magi believed they could accomplish a series of practices that would allow them perpetual, ceaseless contact with the gods in order to communicate at all times

Compelling. Another easier possibility: 1 he died and they stole his corpse, the suspiciously specific denials of this are just evidence of it 2 Another dude then claimed to be him, and this is why the disciples didn't recognize him

my theory is predicated on a magical parsimony principle, ie the best way to make something look like it happened is to make it actually happen, which is why I favor the premise Jesus really survived which would sufficiently motivate the disciples to evangelize to their deaths

That's a good justification. My take is that he originally intended to start a rebellion against the Romans and his sudden death in apparent violation of prophecy was traumatizing, leading to convoluted rationalizations and reinterpretations of his actions as a coping mechanism.

nah, I think the trick of surviving the crucifixion was the whole point, in order to validate his teachings (and that of his disciples, credibly known by others as his disciples - a crucial part of the trick) with an apparently uniquely divine seal of approval

Barring the hidden superiors explanation, Christ's motives were sociopathic. It's more reasonable to me that a sociopath would fail in his plans than that a conspiracy would succeed in them. Also, gnostic angelology is an explanans whose explanandum is different physical bodies
