There's no alternative routes for doctors(that I know of) like there is for software engineers.
Pure obsession would do it, especially in someone already working in healthcare. But alternative routes sometimes emerge in specific places and times. See A Barefoot Doctor's Field Manual

I completely agree with you. I will check that out. Just unfortunately they would never get hired with the way things are. There would have to be some sort of certification process that doesn't require a degree.

Yeah exactly. Doctors need that certification because it’s people’s lives they are dealing with, misinformation or mistakes are not allowed. It’s not like a software engineer that can just release a patch and things are well, or a carpenter, a designer, electrician, etc etc.
