Fascists win in part because they're willing to lie brazenly and repeatedly until people forget the reasons why they're wrong. They win because they know that most of the human population aren't people and can't be appealed to as people. The left needs this mendacity.
You can't make a lie true, but you can always do what Christianity has done: stake out the ground, then retcon iteratively based on future development.
