When the Soviet Union and its client states outlived the crumbling artifice of communism, people like Vaclav Havel wrote about the opportunities for authenticity it created, to no longer have such an all-encompassing system absorbing every ounce of every life. Why not read them?

What if instead of a single tall tower there were a variety of different buildings of people's own design? Sure, it's not as impressive, but it's probably more livable. Probably equally true whether the tower is called "Communism" or "Capitalism"

There are two different major competing definitions of civilization: 1. The most impressive products of human interaction, regardless of what type of interaction was entailed (violence, coercion etc) 2. The domain of human interaction which doesn't include violence, coercion etc

What's falling now isn't civilization imho, it's just a specific system.

Other way around hopefully. Of course, it depends on how effective individual and grassroots efforts are at maintaining the sphere of unmolested free activities of the general populace.
