It's simple: We're in a simulation with political constraints. Any "genius" not known by their fruits or whatever proof is politically expedient are being simulated in accordance with the lowest intelligence they could plausibly have.
Another possibility is that simulations of the original timeline in the future have retrocausal influence on the original timeline in the past and that as a result the past is essentially a cross product between some original facticity and expedient fiction invented by the future
