Hard not to want a large scale war out of spite. Every involved party is less than friendly to my rights and interests. The worst that can even potentially happen to me is being tortured, mutilated, raped, molested, calumniated etc, which are all still risks on a good day.
Having the right to carry a gun to protect against private citizens who will set you on fire and then stab you 67 times is not substantively different from not being allowed to carry a gun (but still having access to one) to protect against state actors who will do the same.
