Or maybe the issue is we can no longer offer each other much that anyone values- and so we are tempted into offering each other instead the opportunity to show pity and compassion. The real emotional labor is letting people feel sorry for you.
Alternatively, everyone is entitled to everything and it's not a moral problem but a logistics problem.
