Sartre said that hell is other people, but I don't believe most people are capable of this sort of existential feeling. Hell is only other people for the person with a well-defined and valuable self. Most people are happy to float lazily in the sea of other people's nonsense.

The unexamined life is unworth living is more true than hell being other people, in other words, and the consequence seems to be an exact inversion of justice: that hell is reserved exclusively (and unavoidably) for great souls.
