By nature, people sell their wares and services to people who can't produce them themselves, but who produce other things. Therefore, by nature the success of anything is contingent on the non-expert opinion of people who are proficient to expert in other fields.
Reason as a failure mode is situated in absolute environment as its scope, while unreason as one is situated in social environment as its scope. The latter is more efficient. The most popular strains of it are also structurally pro-social in net effect, whereas reason is asocial.

There is something dirty about unreason to me, even with my intuitions about its utility and the inherent non-culpability of those who fall victim to it. Some day the exact meaning of "The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone" will be known.
