One principle that is nearly universally agreed upon is that the more power and authority you have, the higher the consequences should be for misconduct, i.e. you punish a coach for cheating more than a player. And yet in our society, the opposite occurs. How is this possible?

Personal responsibility is supposed to be universal, alongside free will etc: thus a concept that becomes more important to affirm the less plausible it is. So the people who are obviously most exonerated by life circumstances are held in the highest contempt, and vice versa.
