NO. It only takes *one* expansionary species. Species's psychologies will not be so uniform that any anthropomorphic social problem could get them *all*. The giant bugs with a hive queen didn't get caught up in virtual reality, so where are *they*?
Perhaps the real question is, where are we? Once you introduce the possibility of VR, doesn't the likelihood we're in an alien run simulation become just about infinitely more likely than the likelihood that some perfect combination of conditions has produced an empty universe?
