A good reason to maintain a dislikable streak in your personality is that it’s hard to form clear-eyed judgments of people who like you without qualifications. You’ll be tempted to be blind to their faults. Make sure everyone who likes you does so with a caveat.
I live this so much. Also, if you ever go out of your way to be likeable for extended periods of time a lot of people will sit around waiting for the other shoe to drop, so the first sign you show of being unlikable in any sense (legit or not) will send them to the moon.
Yeah there’s a hormesis angle here. Give them a small dose of your ugly side so they are able to handle the test of your ugly side without hating you.
