It's interesting that out of all the sound justifications for tradition ever given, none of them have ever been "because it's true"
Most traditions are phrased in obtuse metaphysics or even supernaturalism. They contain truths but are not generally true.

Polynesian belief that women who eat shark during pregnancy will have children born with shark skin. Belief in divination justified by spirits, gods, or ancestors rather than randomness and game theory. Belief that pigs are always unclean, as opposed to antithetical to nomadism.
