It's related to tone policing. I don't think the pattern itself is exactly equal to tone policing as a concept, just very closely related to it.
Is there a word/phrase for when people object to something by taking issue with aspects of its tone or presentation that they subsequently pretend not to have understood? Like, "That's sarcasm, but sarcasm isn't supposed to be there. Therefore it's not sarcasm, therefore..."
