How in the world did I miss this? 18 people were killed in a single 24-hour period in Chicago the weekend before last. The most murders in a single day in 60 yrs. 25 killed over whole weekend. That's mindboggling. And yet it barely made the national media.https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2020/6/8/21281998/chicago-violence-murder-history-homicide-police-crime …

"Rev. Michael Pfleger, a longtime crusader against gun violence, said it was “open season” last weekend in his neighborhood and others. 'On Saturday and particularly Sunday, I heard people saying all over, ‘Hey, there’s no police anywhere, police ain’t doing nothing,' he said."

Worth noting, of course, that there is recent precedence for a dramatic (deliberate?) pullback in police presence leading to a huge surge in deadly violence.https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/12/magazine/baltimore-tragedy-crime.html …

Is this intended to be a “whataboutism” of some sort?

Not in the slightest. I'm simply stunned at the toll. And that it got so little coverage.

I think we've reached a tipping point where what actually happens and the world is ignored in favor of narrative driven stories to such a degree that reality is rendered invisible.

There is a law for that. It's called criminal law. But what is really mindboggling is that the same law does not apply to criminal police, who has killed for years and never brought to justice.

Horseshit: police presence and actions signifcantly reduce the number killed.

This information does not push the narrative so it will be ghosted by the majority of media. If I were a resident of Chicago and surrounding area I would be screaming at the top of my lungs for this to be covered. Where is Al Sharpton? Jesse Jackson? BLM? Very sad
