Do you ever just take a moment to think about the audacity it took for the government to bulldoze the largest Black neighborhood in the state of Oregon to replace it with a bunch of off-ramps and freeways? Like, the level of brazen callous indifference to propose such a thing?

I’m heartened to see the federal funding to advance this project reconnecting Portland’s historic Albina neighborhood. This will begin to repair past injustices, and I’ll keep pushing the city & the state so the community can maximize this space and start to right historic wrongs

Albina Vision already had my attention for leading the effort to rebuild this neighborhood equitably. But they've got some powerful visual storytelling going on as well.

This vision for Lower Albina is an amazing opportunity: much needed housing; a walkable community well-served by transit; and wealth-building opportunities for the Black community unjustly displaced & robbed of generational wealth. This is a win-win-win.

PDX city council has informally endorsed a plan to redevelop Lower Albina. The plan calls for housing, business incubators and new public parks in the historically Black neighborhood, which was all but wiped out by construction of I-5 and Emanuel hospital

As we consider Dr. King bending the long arc of history toward justice, we must also recognize that the fierce urgency of positive, spiritual, just, structural, economic action has not diminished. Let us be bold as we step forth into tomorrow and beyond. #albinavision
