Hypotheticals must make sense to be useful in an argument. That one doesn't. Also, that type of map looks impressive only because population density varies a lot and neither deep-blue cities nor vast uninhabited regions in many states are shown #HowChartsLie h/t @MollyJongFasthttps://twitter.com/baseballcrank/status/1124323414720876549 …

I used this hypothetical example: R candidate wins 48 states by identical 54-46 margins, D wins CA, NY & DC by 75-25 margins, D wins national popular vote. Who should win? pic.twitter.com/832nMi9j88

exactly. An R winning 48 states by 9 and losing CA and NY by 50 is not even a remote possibility. We are not THAT dissimiliar

Exactly. This case —including @kennethfield's map— is the first one in my upcoming book “How Charts Lie” https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1324001569/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1324001569&linkCode=as2&tag=thefunart03-20&linkId=114ec8d569476464a8d042a9b2a806f9 … Ken's map is very revealing

If that ever happened, I like to think Cali and NY (throwing in DC is so bizaare) would be gracious enough to allow the other 48 states to secede.

You can add MA to CA and NY. My Grandfather long dead now used to always say that we should have let the south secede.

...and now maps and charts! But all those can tell the truth and reveal important patterns —if used correctly and ethically
