2012 was as low as it was (Arctic-wide and Chukchi Sea) due to an intense storm in August that helped melt a lot of already fractured ice in an already very low ice year. A new record low this year would likely require a similar event, which is unforecastable at this time range.

Modeling made it look like *if* the heat breaks down or begins to move- of course it all rounds north toward the ice before moderating in any substantial way. And then- let’s really talk about communities that are uncomfortable.
