I didn't think of diets as medical interventions until I saw how chronic restrictive dieting could destroy people's mental and physical health, in addition to their relationship with food.

Imagine how much more difficult it would be for ketogenic diet for weight loss proponents to market it as an "off label use of an extremely potent anti-epilepsy medication."

Disagree with part of premise. No outrage at overblown claims for drugs. Also worth emphasising that 'overblown' claims for diets is subjective, bc researchers are unable and unwilling to test their efficacy.

I mean, there's bestsellers out there specifically about the inefficacy of antidepressants. As for diets, I can't tell you how many millions of dollars have been spent testing their efficacy.

Woah! Hold up. I wish more dietitians were outraged about the protracted ingratiation of food industry in our guidelines, training and practice. And that we apply the same level of critique we do to, in particular, LC/Paleo, to our own body of evidence.

The entire population has a right to be outraged with “the establishment” given a) what we’ve been doing isn’t working and b) it’s everyone’s food supply Please don’t conflate the crazy crap with reasonable repositioning of alternatives.
