Like—you also need a PhD to understand the medications used to keep animals in commercial ag operations healthy, the supplements for their feed, etc. That's not a reason not to eat meat. Also, the battle over "clean" is getting ridiculous.

We *need* to be having constructive, nuanced debates: About transparency. About ag workers' rights. About animal rights. Environmental impact. Preserving cultural/culinary traditions. These are important and often conflicting values. Spelling bees do not help us reconcile them.

The irony is that some of these fake meats are actually made by breaking down real meat, identifying the components that make up real meat, and reconstructing the substitute with many of those components.

What's dumb is even if you use "unpronounceable ingredients" as a proxy for "we should cook more" (which, reasonable), why not just talk about the SES reasons why many people can't or don't? I don't get why no one sees that as a place to make real reforms?
