in 100 years, we will need to distinguish "real" audio/video from "fake" in the same way gemologists distinguish natural from artificial diamonds AND important people will only make videos in special studios to guarantee their authenticity—if it wasn't made there, not real

maybe less...10-20 yrs? interestingly, what governs the authenticity of diamonds is a combination of tech that can detect manmade diamonds and an industry-wide ethic

a huge difference w/r/t fake audio and video is that convincing manmade diamonds are difficult to make—that is, you can't just crank them out with a personal computer or an iPhone

lastly: part of what I realized while researching the value of "naturalness" is that it is tied to origins and authenticity—in a way, people value what's natural because origins determine identity in a profound, existential way

Agree but I’d go with “10 years ago, we should’ve started” as opposed to “in 100 years, we will need to.”

This is a five-year away crisis at most; on the other hand, we are going to have a revolution in identity verification technology sooner.
